Best of the rest #10

As you can see from the pictures below, everything I’ve eaten this week has almost exclusively erred on the side of really fattening… a fact that the ever-tightening waist band on my jeans can also attest to. This is my own fault entirely, in the words of Nigella Lawson- Greed always outweighs my vanity. Plus, I don’t do any excercise at all, unless you count lugging countless bags of food up the four flights of stairs to my flat. I often vaguely consider doing some sit ups or one of the many work out DVDs I own, but the truth of the matter is, I’m incredibly lazy, and besides, excercise only really tones what you’ve got, if you want to have a flat stomach then you have to STARVE.

First up has to be the crackling on the piece of belly pork pictured below.  If you read my blog regularly you will know that I cook with this cut of meat a lot and usually post a picture because my crackling just gets better and better.  It was meant to be served with baked onions, but I ballsed up the first stage of the recipe so I just turned it into a gratin, which actually turned out to be lovely.

I’ve been eating loads of icecream recently which is unusual for me as I suffer with sensitive teeth but over the last couple of weeks I’ve been really craving it. (just to be clear I am not up the duff)  The Ben & Jerry’s pictured below amazing, literally everything you could want in an icecream.  The sundae is a cherry and chocolate knickerbocker glory.

The tagliatelle was nice, not sure I’d do it again though it was a bit… claggy, could just be that I went a bit over board with the mascarpone though.

Next week I’m going to try and eat a bit less cream and sweet stuff and far more fish and greenery. So far I’ve planned smoked mackerel salads to take to work for lunch, a pigs cheek salad, salmon wrapped in prosciutto served on a bed of braised lentils and roasted butternut squash stuffed with barley (I’m cooking for a vege).
