These are a few of my favourite things #4

It’s been another funny old week.  I’ve been in a pretty abysmal mood for a lot of it, work’s been very full on in a few ways and a couple of my closest friends are having a really hard time and I feel powerless to help them.

I’ve had a lovely weekend so far though, yesterday I didn’t leave my flat at all, I lounged around, had countless naps, read, watched The Wire and ate bread & butter pudding for breakfast, it was bliss. Today I’m going to get up and go for a walk along the seafront as it’s absolutely gorgeous outside, bake a cake and go and see my Mummy for a roast at her house in the country.

My favourites this week aren’t overly foodie this week, more random things that have either made my week that little bit more lovely, or simply made me smile.

I’ve actually been quite glad of the weather (I obviously feel desperately sorry for anyone who’s been affected by flooding) because it’s meant I’ve been able to go home, get in my ‘jamas immediately and snuggle up with the cats and this little beauty <3

I’ve been give A LOT of shit for purchasing this I’ve been accused of having a mid life crisis, told three times that I’m going to go up in flames along with being mocked on all of my social media streams,  but I don’t care at all.  I LOVE IT.  £24 from Tesco, buy one, you will not regret it.

I’ve actually had these for over a year now, shameful! But I’ve been dipping in and out of both of them this week (from the comfort of my electric blanket covered bed) and I’m thoroughly enjoying them.

After my leave of absence from blogging last year when life was pretty miserable, it took me ages to get back in the swing of it again.  I’ve been really loving blogging more frequently and lots of you have tweeted me to say how much you’re enjoying my posts- when I started this over 2 years ago it was mainly as a way to catalogue my greed and favourite recipes and I never really expected anyone but my Mum to read it so I’m thrilled that they do!

Quinoa stuffed cheesy peppers

When this recipe popped up in my feed on Bloglovin I bookmarked it immediately.  Really easy and absolutely delicious, I had it with a lamb steak and steamed spinach for supper on Monday and then a couple for lunch at work on Tues and Weds.

I go on about this place all the time, but seriously, it is the one.  It’s the most reasonably priced of any in Brighton & Hove and has an unbelievable range of Asian food.  Hundreds of different types of noodles including my favourite glass noodles, sauces, pastes, spices and a small selection of fresh ingredients too.

It’s on Sydney Street and open until 6pm on weekdays (not sure about the weekends), there’s a loading bay outside that I usually park in while I have a mooch about.

A very lazy supper, my equivalent of beans on toast.  A spicy broth made from chicken stock, 1tbsp of fish sauce, 1/2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp of sriracha chilli sauce with the juice of a whole lemon. Some glass noodles and a couple of soft boiled eggs.  Just look at the colour of those yolks, so pretty- they’re Burford Browns, from Waitrose in case you were wondering.

This actually came from one of the cafés at my work. It’s a jumbo sausage in a baguette, melted cheese and onion rings with sweet potato fries on the side.  I was having a shit day and decided to ” eat my feelings”… It didn’t work, but it was SO good.

This definitely falls in to the category of things that made me smile this week. Someone whom I’m enormously fond of went to Thailand and brought me back a bag of gifts which were so thoughtful, I actually burst into tears on the spot.  One of them was a copy of the Dalai Lama’s ‘Art of Happiness at work’ book with the following message written inside.  I was sorting through a pile of books when I came across it and it reminded me of how lucky I am to have so many wonderful people in my ife.

The above is my amazing Mum’s B&B.  I honestly wasn’t sure if she was ever going to really get behind the idea, but as soon as she did she’s been FLYING and has made it to #1 on tripadvisor.

Set in the countryside just outside Arundel there’s only two rooms so it’s more of a ’boutique’ B&B, but if they gave * ratings to B&Bs my Mum’s would honestly be 5 star (and that isn’t me being biased, read the reviews for yourself!).

Luxury bathrooms with underfloor heating, a field or castle view both with unbelievably comfortable beds and high quality bed linen (I’ve tried them both) with TV, DVD player and kettle etc.  The breakfasts are next level, everything is organic, free range and locally sourced.  She makes fresh fruit compotes, has a ridiculous selection of herb teas and often has a breakfast ‘special’ as well. I’m so proud of her x

Check out her website and Facebook page too.

Or indeed, one woman’s…

What have been your favourite things about the last week? My blogs had a bit of a revamp, what do you think? I’m not happy with the header at all so would love to hear your suggestions. Comment below, or tweet me.

Aaaaah what a lovely thing to say, thank you! I would post a photo of the bread & butter pudding but it was actually shop bought! It's bread, sultanas and custard baked in the oven, SO good x

TBH, although the header looks classy and cool, I really liked the old curly one. It was charming and cute, and I thought it still matched the rest of the new look and suited your 'voice'. But I know it's sometimes nice just to have a change. Xx

Aaaah thanks Gem, I love the curly one too and it's still there! Were you viewing it on an iPhone/iPad as it often appears in a different font on those devices? I wanna keep the curly, just wondering if the header is a bit plain and perhaps needs some small images on there, puddings and pies perhaps… I love your new site too, so impressive! xxx
