These are a few of my favourite things #35

It’s been a ‘totes emosh’ seven days for a number of reasons, but it’s been a great one too.  A few things reminded me this week, that although there’s a lot of complete pricks doing bad in the world, there are actually SO many lovely people doing all kinds of good as well, and I’m lucky enough to have plenty of them in my life. Surround yourself with good people, who want the best for you, and others, and your life will be infinitely better, I promise you. That is all.

The New Club <3 (again)

Regulars around these parts/Twitter/Instagram will know that I absolutely LOVE the New Club in Brighton and have reviewed it twice this year already (here and here) as well as numerous mentions in my favourite things posts as well.

Best email of the month!

I am going to this on Saturday with my friend Christina and I’m going to vlog it, so watch this space. Needless to say I’m absolute beside myself with excitement!

M&S bringing out their filthy side again

These are AMAZING. Everthing disappointing about a standard shop bought scotch egg is put to rights, by the evil geniuses at M&S. I tweeted them my appreciation, they immediately replied and we ended up having a bit of a laugh and joke.  I think brands are getting a lot more wise about their tone of voice on social media, and as usual, M&S are leading the way with this. So whoever operates their Twitter account, well done that (wo)man! By yourself a pack of these and follow them on Twitter too!

Best film I’ve seen all year

If you haven’t watched this already I implore you to make a 2 hour slot in your calendar immediately. If you haven’t watched this OR Mary Poppins,  shame on you, make a four hour slot in your calendar immediately, and go home and berate yourself for a lifetime of missing out of an absolutely classic film, with a follow up nearly as brilliant. Watch it, you will not regret it. I need to watch Mary Poppins now, and buy a copy of this.

German Epoisses

I’ve been unbelievably slack about food shopping, and my diet in general to be honest. As a result I’ve got thinner, as I’ve been eating less, and as I’ve said before, in order to lose weight I have to starve! Not that I’ve been starving exactly, just eating a lot smaller volume of sometimes very unhealthy food and not much else. It’s actually similar to a diet mentioned in, my (possibly all time) favourite blog Recipe Rifle, Esther Walker talks about her ‘shitty food diet“, and I can confirm, it is very effective for a short term burst and to drop a few pounds, this wasn’t actually my intention at all, I’ve just been SO busy, and walking a lot too. I digress…

I saw 8 figs for £2 and snapped them up with that cheese, then spent my time stuck in traffic (what THE ACTUAL FUCK Brighton & Hove council, you are killing me with the amount of roadworks) googling recipes and kind of did a mash up of a few. I roasted the figs in the oven after seasoning them with pepper and drizzling with honey. Baked the cheese in its little box and served it spooned over (I overdid it a bit) the figs, scattered with walnut and gave it a fragrant kick in the form of that lush rose petal vinegar I bought at Westdene Chilli Fiesta and then poured over the fig juice from the baking tray.

I thought I might do a recipe post, or perhaps repeat it with a demo on my YouTube channel if people like the look of them?

There are no words for how much I love him. Louie is the most articulate, bright, charming and hilarious child I have ever met. My love for him is entirely requited and his adoration for me and his sister (my God Daughter) makes my heart melt and my biological clock tick at an alarming volume (soz boys).

Stila ‘In the light’ palette – £25

I am a total Stila makeup junkie, I looooove it, it’s my first port of call when I visit Boots, their eyeliner is the best I’ve tried, both the smudge sticks and liquid style and other than brief flirtations with other brands, nothing else has really turned my head. I’d read rave reviews of this palette on other beauty blogs, so when I got a discount code for Stila I snapped one up. Sign up to their newsletter and get notified about online sales and promotions.

It costs £25 (£20 with my discount) which I think is very good value considering the quality, as well as the comparable prices of similar palettes by Urban Decay or Nars. there’s HEAPS of tutorials on YouTube of different looks you can create, and nearly all of the colours are available to buy in single pots online, but annoyingly my favourite one, bliss, isn’t. I’ve got use out of the entire top row of colours, as well as three of the bottom, and they’re all such a lovely buttery texture, so blendable with none of that annoying powdery fall out you get with cheaper brands.

I’ve been trying out my chocolate palette by Too Faced again recently, but to be honest, I do really like it, but I really do love this one. Big thumbs up from me, and would make a lovely gift for a makeup lover. I am DYING to try their Mile High mascara, once I am off this beauty product spending ban I’ll definitely be making a purchase, as well as the urban decay duo mascara set too.

I  cannot even….

My favourite family x

So yesterday I officially became God Mother to the most wonderful little girl I’ve ever met, Delilah.  The product of the love of two of my favourite people in the whole world, being asked to be a permanent fixture in her life was one of the best things I’ve ever been asked to do.  I’m going to do a whole post devoted to the day, as a record for myself and so I can embarrass with it when she’s older too, but honestly, one of the highlights of this year for me. Well done Chloe and Dan, love you both immensely x

Also thanks to the big guy for not striking me down up on entry to the church, a number of people were worried for my safety… ha ha ha.

Just cos it made me LOL 🙂
