These are a few of my favourite things #40

I’ve had the most fantastic weekend and I have Monday- Weds off too cos it’s my Birthday! Needless to say I’m feeling incredibly content and happy right now.

I’ve cooked lots this past week, eaten out lots and caught up with some of my favourite people. I’m just midway through a room tidy up (procrastination central) with one ear on Xfactor and both eyes on this. I’ve got a glorious evening of pampering and playing catch up with my tweets, YouTube subscription box and Bloglovin planned. I’ve also editing part #1 of my Birthday vlog, so subscibe to my channel to be notified when I upload it. Warning, it contains scenes of drunken behaviour and serious amounts of food porn.

Tomorrow is my actual Birthday, my Mum’s coming over mid morning and we’re going for lunch and a browse around the shops, then back to mine to watch Saving Mr Banks (again) on the new TV she and her boyfriend Paul have bought me. Then I’m just going to have a chilled evening with my flatmate as I’ve got an action packed day planned on Tuesday- I’m going to be vlogging throughout so hopefully that’ll be up by the end of the week

Not gunna lie, this didn’t turn out exactly as I hoped, because, as usual, I over estimated on the pasta and as a result the wasn’t as much of the creamy sauce I’d have liked. Other than that is was bloody lovely and as simple as the picture grid shows (above). Obvs not for the faint hearted/on a diet/lactose intolerant- poor sods.

Steak with watercress sauce and veg

Another simple (ish) weeknight meal. Potatoes and veg that needed using up, steak I found in my freezer and a simple watercress sauce which was lush, even if I do say so myself. I have my steak rare, if you’re asking. Sometimes even blue if I’m in a fancy pants restaurant.

Brocoli, celery and cheddar soup

Soup season is well and truly upon us, and I for one am thrilled. I spend far too much time and money at the gigantic Asda, and even more dangerously, the M&S food store, which are both positioned right by my work. This was definitely my best experiment (freestyle rather than following a recipe) of a soupy variety, and one I’ll definitely be repeating.

I have a variety of these portable soup mugs, they range between £5 and £7 (the above one is the latter and is a ‘noodle bowl’) and I couldn’t be without mine.  Perfect for those who have a microwave at work.

Pad Thai

When i was writing up my review of UniThai (posted earlier this week) it brought on a massive craving for pad thai, so I popped to Asda on my lunchbreak and got the necessary ingredients (I had all of the dry stuff/seasoning). I followed my own recipe  (didn’t bother with the tofu this time though) and it turned out really well.

Why I love the social media

So these little beauties were a love at first sight as soon as I spied them in my Instagram feed, I said I wanted to buy some and we hooked it up on Twitter. I’ve followed lovely Emily from blog Recipes & Reviews  on Twitter  and Instagram for a while now, and she’s constantly making me drool and giving me life envy (in the very best way)- so definitely check her out! Her Mum was knitting them in aid of the British Legion, so after a swift bank transfer, she sent the poppies all the way from Leeds for me, she’s a babe x

Burger & Lobster pyjamas

I won these in a genius competition that Burger & Lobster ran on Facebook and Twitter last year and they’ve been well loved and well worn ever since.  Well worth a visit if you’re in London, you can check out my review (here),  it was nearly two years ago, but I’m happy to say that reports from various people as well as stalking their social networks all point to the fact it is just as excellent.  Try to try a bit of everything if you can, I couldn’t possibly pick a favourite.

It’s beginning to look a lot like….

Anyone who’s been reading my blog or followed me on any form of social network, will be well aware that I love Christmas. I adore it, I never used to be a fan, but for the last five years or so, my obsession has deepened with every one that’s passed. I did promise last week not to mention Christmas on here until after Bonfire night (then it’s all systems go), but I just.can’ Behold the cuteness of the most Christmassy shop in Brighton (there’s one in Hove too) and for the first time ever, I became overcome with spendiness in Primark and came away with that little lot. It has put me right in the Christmas spirit.

I’ve been to the shops a few times this week as well as watching a few interiors videos/hauls on Youtube (this lovely one from Kate at Gh0stparties is a particular fave) I’ve decided my sitting room is in need of an overhaul. I’ve got a brand new TV now and it’s a really lovely room, just a tad unloved. I’m going to throw some time, effort and money at it in the next couple of months, and will of course keep you updated of the progress.

One of my foodiest friend Jonny has got into bed (as it were) with the Fishbowl pub in Brighton and has taken charge of the kitchen, devising a simple but gorgeous menu of all sorts of filthy and calorific food. He invited me in to have a tasting session of the menu and I was down there like a shot. I won’t say too much as there’s a vlog and a blog coming up and I think the pictures pretty much speak for themselves,  Follow them on Twitter and Facebook for a frequent stream of photographic deliciousness.

Today I went for an impromptu pre-Birthday breakfast with my absolute babe station of a friend, Fran.  We decided on Mange tout (sister restaurant to Plateau) as neither of us had tried it, but both wanted to so we met there at midday for brunch. I’m planning on doing a review and vlog (complete with toilet cam) so look out for that in the next couple of weeks. Fran spoilt me with a candle from my new favourite shop; Oliver Bonas, as well as a gorgeous mug that we both fell in love with as soon as we saw it. Check out her blog about her life as a trainee makeup artist. She’s my favourite.

      They're soooo nice, they sent me a kimono too, have never worn it, should dig it out really! The burger was soooo good, everything I've eaten this week has been great! Thanks again for the poppies xx
