These are a few of my favourite things #46

It’s Sunday evening, my festive bedsheets are on, I’ve had a fun/action-filled weekend but also managed to be fairly productive too, and it feels gooooood.

I vlogged for the first time in ages yesterday so will try and get around to editing it tomorrow night to put up a bit later in the week, as well as a multitude of blog posts which are sitting in my drafts folder waiting for me to finish them off, there just aren’t enough hours in the day, it’s a nightmare- god knows how people who have full time jobs, families and a home to run do it all!

I’ve got a lovely week ahead, on Tuesday I’m going to the Silo and 64 Degrees collab (I actually did an excited little jig when the invite landed in my inbox) and had I not have been at work I’d have done the same when I received one for h.en restaurant’s opening on Wednesday evening. Fried and roast ‘ethical’ chicken- I cannot cannot wait.

I’ve written separate reviews of 64 Degrees and Silo already and loved both, so I’m SO excited to see what they cook up together.  Definitely not a good week for my ongoing struggle between wanting to eat everything, all the time, but not wanting to gain weight. Fuck it, it’s Christmas!

Salted caramel tart, praline macaron
and praline icecream

I know I mentioned this in last week’s favourites, but it’s really been playing on my mind and I haven’t had time to finish the full review of it yet.  This dessert, is, unequivocally is in the top three best I’ve ever had I think- and that is a big statement. Those macarons made me wish that I wasn’t so, completely useless with a piping bag, it makes me rage though.  Trying to make meringue ghosts for halloween resulted in a meltdown of epic proportions and me launching the piping bag at across the kitchen counter. I’ll leave it to the pros. The tart was perfect, the ice-cream was perfect. I ate at a fine dining restaurant a few days before this, and I can honestly say that the above was streets ahead of what I had there- totally next level. Follow Alistair, the genius behind this, on Twitter for future supper club dates, it was UH-mazing.

My flatmate is so cute <3

It’s been a couple of years since someone gave me an Advent calendar, so I was absolutely delighted to come home and find this on my window sill, left there by my flatmate, also called Rosie, bless her. Things are looking, and smelling properly festive right now at Pussy Palace. As mentioned in last week’s post, we can’t have a Christmas tree because of the cats, they’ll destroy it. But we’ve got paper chains going on, a big vase of red & gold baubles, wreaths, fairy lights, ornaments and frankincense and myrrh flavoured potpourri- it’s so cosy and is a good substitute for the tree I’d really love. One day.

Chicken massamam curry

I’ve never been one for using jars of sauces, the occasional thai curry kit with paste, but never a jar of curry sauce or anything. However, this caught my eye in M&S, and it actually turned out to be a jar of a paste like sauce, which you added some cooked potato, herbs and a tin of coconut milk to, and it was gorgeous. I’ll definitely be buying it again. The naan wasn’t strictly necessary as well as rice, but was also from M&S and very nice indeed, perfect for mopping up the residual sauce.

Home cooking has been a bit of a fail for me recently, I intend to rectify this immediately as soon as I break for Christmas, and into the New Year as well. I used to pride myself on eating (or drinking) a ‘rainbow’ every day and I’ve slacked right off lately.

I Love Thai, Matlock Road, Brighton

I went for a lovely meal at I Love Thai with lovely Jenna and the whole evening was lush from start to finish. I need to visit again to be sure, but I’m pretty confident that this may well be my favourite place to eat Thai in Brighton. Keep your eyes peeled for my review coming soon, but do check out their Facebook for promo codes Mon-Thurs for eat in and delivery. We got 15% off our meal which made the bill for a salad, sharer starter, two mains and four beers, an extremely reasonable £36. Big thumbs up from both of us. Jenna will be putting a review on her blog too so follow her on Twitter for links to her posts.

My favourite day of the week

Saturday was practically perfect. Lie in, meet up with an old friend and his girlfriend. Pizza from a pop up from my favourite pizzeria, The Hearth. Then we went for mulled ‘Old Rosie’ cider at the pub. Shopping, a bar and then another pub. The last pub was extremely disappointing, worst cheesy chips ever, but more of that in my upcoming vlog. Then home to chill out, eat cake and watch films, all tucked up in my festive bed linen with the scent of potpourri filling the air. I am LOVING this festive season.

Beauty products make me smile 🙂

It’s been a little while since I went into Boots and had one of my ‘blackouts’.. I go in, completely focused on what it is that I need, then I get… sidetracked. In the blog I filmed yesterday I do a little mini overview of what I bought, amongst lots of eating and boozing, so if you want to see that, do subscribe to my YouTube channel. And no, I know I don’t need another nail polish, but they are the most perfect pinks ever and they had to be mine, not strictly festive shades, but hugely appealing in my eyes.

Practically perfect Sunday

Today I had another lie in. God I really do pity people who aren’t able to sleep late, and also those who feel guilty about doing so. My weeks are so busy I feel like I deserve it, and I definitely need it! I met my friend Alex for a roast at about 2 and I asked Twitter for help, a girl called Clara recommended the Brighton Beer Dispensary, and as it’s near a sneaky free parking spot, I headed straight there. And it wasn’t bad at all you know, clean loos too! #5 of the roast challenge will be coming up in the New Year as the next load of reviews are stacking up already, it’s relentless, but I love it. This evening has been spent in the company of X Factor and Saving Mr Banks (again) and all of the snacks (bottom right).  Absolutely ideal evening, and no hint of Sunday blues either, so content right now.

I would eat this in a heartbeat, would you?
