Other than a handful of unsavoury/abusive blog comments from the ‘anon’ crew*, this week has been pretty much ideal. Gorgeous weather, four days annual leave and lots and lots of food, exciting new projects, and fun. 2015 seems to be bringing the goods so far, and it’s exciting.
I had a lovely Sunday evening feeling of well-being until about an hour ago, when I bit into a fork (don’t ask) and chipped my front tooth, so it’s off to the emergency dentist for me tomorrow, waaah. I’m going to the Curry Leaf Cafe Anniversary party in the evening and the rest of the week is going to be spent with my head down, working, blogging and plotting- so much to do.
*Part of me feels like having a rant, but a bigger part of me know I shouldn’t waste another second of my time on such impotent little freaks. This post I wrote back in November just about covers it.
I have a friend who has not only designed an amazing and slick new website for me (coming soon), but when I met up with him to work on it he presented me with an entirely home made summer berry tart too. So big up Jonny you are an absolute legend and I’m looking forward to working with you loads more in the future x
My favourite things posts are becoming a bit of a Kambis love-in this year, and if you’re in the market for a (nice) kebab, then look no further. Lauren the waitress with the red hair is one of the best in Brighton, and I meet a lot of them. Lovely, friendly and always gives me extra pickles and green chillies, she is worth her weight in gold and I tell her boss that every time I go in there. They’re on Twitter now too so definitely worth a follow. I sent someone their way the other day and he ended up getting a second one delivered, he told me it was the best kebab he’s ever had, and trust me, that boy has had a lot of kebabs in his lifetime.
So after my ludicrously bad experience at The Heart & Soul Food Company, I asked for your recommendations for somewhere that sold decent Caribbean style food in the area and Juke’s Kitchen was a suggestion from one of you lovely lot. If you are prepared to travel out to deeeeep Hove for some decent food, then I would definitely recommend it. My full review will be up tomorrow.
My second visit in a week to the new kid on the block in Kemp Town, Egg & Spoon, didn’t disappoint. I had one of their giant sausage rolls followed by buttermilk waffles with berry compote & vanilla mascarpone. Again, there’ll be a full review to follow, but it really is lovely and I would highly recommend. I’ve already sent a few people I know their way who have all come back to me with glowing reports as well.
I’ve had my eye on this ever-since it launched and then sold out* immediately. I finally managed to order some from their website, and it is love. Aside from the utterly insane amount of packaging it was delivered in (pop it in a Jiffy bag and save me £4 next time, Clarins)- it is love, real love.
The formula is great, despite being an oil no dissimilar to lip gloss in consistency, there’s no stickiness or greasiness either. Love the giant doe foot applicator, the smell and even the taste. At £18 it’s not the cheapest product, but I’ll definitely be re-purchasing and have already recommended to anyone who gives a toss about such things.
*I just checked the website and it’s out of stock, but they do have an option to be notified by email when they have it back in again. Do be prepared to feel annoyed when that email comes through at 5am and they’ve sold out again by 9am, long before you read said notification email. It’s worth it in the end though!Tapas and new friends
Last weekend something really rather lovely happened, lots of bloggers I’ve been chatting with on Twitter for the past year or so, all came down to Brighton en mass for a foodie get together, over ALL the tapas and sangria. We’re in the process of collating all of the photos we got over the 24 hours, then I’ll do a post about it as well as a full rundown of our meal at Solera d’tapas.
What would one of these posts be without a little entry from my favourite Sugardough Bakery. The above was actually a gift with purchase from head honcho Kane, they’re his new favourite, and I can see why. I had a breakfast pastry and a bottle of Fentimans rose lemonade- it’s the nicest thing EVER.
