My favourite things post has had a bit of a revamp, mainly because I have SUCKED at posting it weekly recently and ended up with a massive backlog. So rather than omit anything, I decided to start a new monthly post called Best of Brighton food and stick to more lifestyle-ly bits in these ones from now on. Let me know what you think of this idea in the comments below.
When I stop posting regularly you can be pretty sure there’s some sort of crisis occurring, but there’s not, I’m just readjusting to having a few more plates to spin, then it’ll be business as usual, promise. I feel like writing these posts is good for my soul and gives me a weekly reminder of just how fortunate I am, in so many ways.
And in case you’re wondering, yes, I did snigger when typing out #69 on the header image, and I don’t even care what that makes me. I hope stuff like that never stops being funny, EVER.
If you could put summer in a bottle…
One of my favourite ever compliments is to be told I smell nice, and this perfume ensures that this happens almost daily, hurrah! Estee Lauder relaunches their Bronze Goddess range at the beginning of every summer, and the perfume is only released in limited numbers, ensuring its a sell out.- clever PR team.
The best way to describe the fragrance is cocktails, sunshine, holidays and happiness. You may well be too late to snap some up in store now, but well worth keeping an eye out. And yes, I did by three bottles, and no, it’s not ridiculous, it’s very wise of me. If you’ve smelt it you’ll know why.
Every weekend’s a four day one at the mo so they’ve all been pretty great, but the one pictured above was pretty much perfect. As I’m not working Fridays at the moment a trip to Street Diner was always going to be on the cards, and I ate ALL the baked goods from the gorgeous Honeycomb Cakes stall- that banoffee cake was next level. Saturday morning was a long lie in with a trip to Sugardough (review of their new pizza to be added to my pizza post soon) before spending the perfect afternoon in Crawley (oxymoron or what?!) watching Jurassic World in 3D and a fat-filled trip to my childhood favourite; TGI Friday’s. Total gluttony, great company and so much fun.
I rounded up the weekend with films, ginger mojitos, breakfast croissants and having supper cooked for me. As ever, I’d like to thank my Mum for my metabolism…
In addition to eating out a lot in the last month I’ve been cooking loads more too. These two beauts of dishes were almost entirely thanks to my favourite beloved M&S. The recipe for the crab & chilli pasta is on my blog and a piece of piss to make. Do try to get a whole dressed crab though (M&S sell them) as the brown meat is the vital component in making the sauce as rich in flavour as possible.
As we’re just heading into the very best of British tomato season now, I’m hoping these multi coloured specimens will be be around for the next few months at least. SO aesthetically pleasing and delicious.
Last week my friend Fran, Makeup Artist and baking extraordinaire came to stay, bringing all of the treats with her, in her stylish overnight bag (obvs). I’m already in love with the highlighter, now my skin’s cleared up a lot I can get away with a sheer base and using more ‘glowy’ products, which I’m really enjoying. Both the lipgloss and eye contouring palette are old faves of mine too, clever girl. Oh and those brownies, they’re salted caramel and rolo… nuff said.
She’d come down to do a friend of mine’s makeup before prom, but I had a funny turn (like, actually thought I was going to keel over and die in Pret) after a dodgy as fuck massage at ‘Relaxstation’ on Trafalgar Street. Dodgy, as in, manipulating the part of my neck I had asked her to avoid. I’m pretty sure it was this that caused the loss of feeling down one side, a horrific headache and actual vomming that started about 30 minutes after. The bloke behind the counter was horrible and there was bad vibes in there too. AVOID.
Anyway I digress, being the hero that she is Fran left me on my deathbed and went on her own to make up the two girls, without so much as murmur. A true professional. Follow her on Twitter and hit her up for all of your makeup and hair needs, she’s a total babe.
You need to read this article!
I read literally hundreds of things on the interwebz a month and this was very definitely the best one in June. In this poignant, funny and refreshingly brutal (in a nice way) article, Guardian writer Sali Hughes tells you why it’s imperative that you ditch your shit mates, ASAP.
I for one could not agree more. I have seriously refined my ‘inner circle’ over the last couple of years, it’s been out with the takers, the people who undermined my confidence and let me down repeatedly and the ones I just don’t have anything in common with anymore. This sounds flippant of me, it’s not meant to, I just know it’s for the best. Just because people have been in your life for most of it doesn’t mean they should always be in it. The busier I get, the less time I have, so I want to make sure I’m spending it with the right people. Preach over, but read the article, it’s a real eye-opener.
This week the internet lit up like a rainbow after America made same-sex marriage legal across all states- brilliant news and about bloody time! Now if you could just stop selling guns to murderers too please, America…
If I see these two then you can pretty much guarantee they will be ending up in my favourite things post that week, meaning that regular readers will be no stranger to these adorable faces. We spent a blissful afternoon doing nail painting, splashing about in the (fucking freezing) paddling pool, making dens and eating Haribo whilst Chloe’s back was turned. I cannot believe how much they change each time I see them, absolutely terrifying, but beautiful to watch. I love them so much.
I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to receiving messages like this from my Mother…
